Prescription Glasses (Single Vision)
Single vision lenses are glasses lenses with one dioptric power. These prescriptions glasses are the most common type, and correct vision at a single distance.
These glasses ae for individuals who need their vision corrected for only one viewing distance, whether that be farther or shorter distances.
For prescription glasses, we offer 6 lens options based on lens index.
Now, you might be wondering what the term “lens index” means. Commonly called the “index of refraction”, this number typically ranges from 1.50 to 1.74 and indicates how effectively the lens bends incoming light rays.
More generally, the lens index indicates the thickness of your lenses. As the strength of your prescription increases, lenses usually become heavier and thicker. However, this often leads to more uncomfortable and less visually appealing lenses.
This problem can be addressed through use of high index lenses. A higher lens index corresponds with a thinner lens, making these lenses more lightweight. Despite being more lightweight, these lenses are able to accommodate stronger prescriptions.
Now, you might be wondering, what lens index should I look for? Below you can find more in-depth descriptions of each type of lens and what they will offer depending on your unique needs.
1.5 Basic Index
These are our standard single-vision lenses, well-suited for lower prescriptions ranging from -3.00 to +3.00. Based on the characteristics of these lenses, they require a full-rim frame for maximum support of the lens.
1.56 Mid-Index
This type of lens is 15% thinner than the 1.5 Basic Index lenses and it a comfortable, lightweight option. These lenses are best suited for prescriptions ranging from -3.00 to -3.75 and +3.00 to +3.75. It is recommended to use these lenses with full-rim frames or for sports-related glasses.
1.6 High Index for Sports/Kids/Rimless
These lenses come in either MR-8 (Mitsui Resin) or polycarbonate materials, and are thin, lightweight, and resistant to impacts. This makes them perfect options for kids, or for those who play sports. These lenses also block 100% of UV rays.
1.6 High Index
This type of lens is 20% thinner than the 1.5 Basic Index lenses, and well-suited for strong prescriptions or those who want thinner glasses frames. We recommend these lenses for prescriptions with a sphere (SPH) correction between +/- 4.25 and +/- 6.75 and a cylinder (CYL) correction between +/- 2.25 and +/- 3.00.
1.67 High Index
This type of lens is 33% thinner than the 1.5 Basic Index lenses. These lenses are thinner and lighter, making them good choices for higher prescriptions.
1.74 Super High Index
These lenses are 44% thinner than the 1.5 Basic Index lenses, making them the thinnest lens options available. These lenses are made for the highest prescriptions possible and are very lightweight.
Non-Prescription Glasses
Non-prescription glasses are glasses with no vision correcting power. These are well-suited for individuals who have perfect vision and want glasses for fashion reasons.
